October 10, 2015  10am  No-Host Activity -- Amphibious Forces Memorial Museum Tour 

Experience the Rebuilding of a WWII Navy ship!   The tour will be at the outdoor Amphibious Forces Memorial Museum and will consist of hearing about and watching volunteers as they restore the only remaining World War II-era Landing craft still existing.

Lunch will follow at nearby Tilt, 3449 N. Anchor St., Ste. 200.                  ~~1.5-2 PDU's for this tour.~~

November 18, 2015  10:30am  No-Host Activity -- Museum of the Oregon Territory

211 Tumwater Drive, Oregon City     Tickets are $5

The museum overlooks Willamette Falls and the Willamette River.  It has extensive exhibits of Clackamas county history documented in photographs and artifacts.  Displays follow a time line from Indian times through fur traders, pioneers and merchants.  Additional exhibits include one on America's first long distance electric transmission, which was from Willamette Falls, and an immigrant wagon fully loaded for the Oregon Trail. Lunch afterwards at a nearby restaurant.


December 9, 2015  11am   No-Host Activity -- Pittock Mansion Holiday Tour

Do you need to get revved up for the holidays? Join your fellow retirees for a visit to the Pittock Mansion to see it in all of its glorious holiday splendor! If you have not seen the decorations in December, you will be impressed as each room of the Mansion is decorated around a theme that celebrates the Christmas season.  For more information:  pittockmansion.org.

Meet at the Oregon Maritime Museum, SW Naito Parkway and Pine.  Cost:  $4.   ~~One PDU available~~

Come join other retirees when we explore the sternwheeler Portland, the last operating steam-powered sternwheel tug in the U.S. which is on the National Registry of Historic Places.  Volunteer docents will take us on a tour of the steamer, including the pilot house and engine room, and tell stories of the local rivers and their maritime history.  The tour also will include ship models, maritime artifacts and other memorabilia. September 28, 2014  matinee No-Host Activity -- Words that Burn  Milagro Theater
The play is written from the perspective of three characters: William Stafford, Lawson Inada (former Poet Laureate of Oregon) and Guy Galbaldon (a Latino who had been a foster child of a Japanese American family and became famous as the Pied Piper of Saipan). This play is written by local writer Cindy Williams Gutierrez. RSVP marleenwong@comcast.net

Program:  Speaker George Nakata from the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center.  Mr. Nakata was born in Portland, Oregon.  When he was a child he was incarcerated at the Portland Assembly Center formerly known as the Portland Livestock Exposition Center.  Mr. Nakata will speak about his experiences during World War II. This will be a fascinating look at Portland’s little known past.  Mr. Nakata retired from the Port of Portland after opening and managing the Far East offices. He now has his own consulting firm, George Nakata International, Ltd.  Also, there will be a statewide ballot update to prepare for the November elections.
